Psalm 24

Psalms 24:3-6 Who shall ascend the hill of the LORD? And who shall stand in his holy place? 4 He who has clean hands and a pure heart, who does not lift up his soul to what is false and does not swear deceitfully. 5 He will receive blessing from the LORD and righteousness from the God of his salvation. 6 Such is the generation of those who seek him, who seek the face of the God of Jacob. Selah.

Who will have communion with the God who has created all things, sustains all things, and brings to end all things? Without God coming to us, washing our hands and purifying our hearts, we would all worship what is false, and we would all remain deceivers. How is it that God would give us such scandalous grace which cost us nothing, yet cost Him His very own loving and perfect Son? We receive blessings from the LORD and righteousness from God, and all of it comes to pass by His hand. It has and always will be all of grace. Not only that, but God changes us so that we are turned from sin and towards Him. He puts in us a desire to seek Him. And yet, though he puts in us that desire, He still blesses us for seeking Him.

Is it strange that God would be so God centered? Is it odd that He would change our hearts so that we would pursue Him? Wouldn’t such turning of His creatures act as the greatest self-interest religion ever imagined? Well, I guess God is quite serious about being worshipped as He is. But what if God, who is the fountain and source of love and ultimate joy, created His creatures in such a way that they are not satisfied in any eternal or ultimate sense until they have come to Him? What if His desire that we worship Him causes us to find such eternal and ultimate joy and happiness? What if coming to Him in worship glorifies Him and satisfies us? What if His glory and our joy in pursuing Him are not at odds, yet are necessary? That reality would change everything. It would mean that we are only satisfied when He is glorified, and the He is glorified in us when we are satisfied and filled with joy in Him. If that is true, and we truly desire to glorify Him, then we would be set to the task of pursuing God in such an intense and all consuming way, that we wont rest until we are satisfied in Him. Not a one time satisfaction, but a continual savoring of Him and all that comes with Him. What is the chief end of man? To glorify God by enjoying Him forever. Who shall ascend the hill of the Lord? And who shall stand in His holy place? Those that have come to Him as Lord, Savior, and Treasure of our life.
