Is Jesus qualified as a Baptist Elder?

This is simply astounding. I know this is not new news, but it does remind me why we are preaching through Galatians and dealing with what the gospel is and what it is not.

It frightens me that our tendency (and I include myself in the “our”) is to totally reject what God has intended for our pleasure because of the actions of those who abuse His blessings. Should we then ban women because they tend to make us lust? Should we ban sex because it causes broken homes and ruined lives? Should we abandond food because some are gluttons? How about knives since some use them to kill? Our hearts are constantly bent towards their original sinful orientation to legalism and self-commending self-righteousness. Our goal is not to reject a pleasurable thing because it can lead to displeasure, but to find our pleasure first and foremost in Jesus so that all our pleasure flows from and to Him as the very basis for our joy and delight.

P.S. This is all the more reason we should not abuse a great and pleasurable blessing. It ensares the rest of us in a web of legalistic tendencies.
