Well said David. The recent riff has once again caused me to want to tell others I know that are part of the Calvary Chapel "non"- denomination in hopes that they would see some of the teaching errors and even leave if necessary but I find it so hard to do that with the right attitude and motives. I am sure on one level I can justify it and on another it is devisive. Apart from any bitter feelings in the past, the recent happenings are truly sad. It breaks my heart to hear that a father and son cannot get along and are airing their junk in public and they are ministers of the Word on top of that.

It's interesting how we as people debate an issue from opposite ends only to find out that God's response isn't one or the other, or even somewhere in between. Rather, He institutes a new way of doing things completely above the scale. The gospel is definitely one of these paradigms. We create a scale of methods to commend ourselves to God, with each point upon the line being equally wrong. You see this in the Sarmaritan woman's understanding of worship (Jesus dismisses both Jerusalem and Samaria, calling her to worship in spirit and truth) and in their political/religious groups (not siding with sadducee, pharisee or zealot, but declaring the entrance of the Kingdom of God). What would He say of our worship today? How would He challenge the way we marry the gospel with our democratic or republican affiliations (depending upon where in the U.S. you are)? We constantly default to this line of thinking and find ourselves needing to look back to the Gospel. I hope that they, along with myself, are reminded of their need for the Gospel even as they preach it to others.
