Anyone have a spare rib?

Well,
As some are aware, I began training again and have really enjoyed getting out on the mat and working out. I’m training with Fabio Santos who is one of the best Brazillian Jiu-Jitsu instructors around. He trained under Rolls Gracie and received his black belt from Rickson Gracie in Brazil. He’s very old school, but a great teacher.

Yesterday I took an early class which was mixed with some MMA guys and of course other BJJ guys. I went to pass this guys guard and when I dove in to get a side mount he placed his knee up and my ribs landed on them and I heard a crack! Yep, I have at least one broken rib on my left side, perhaps two. I had a really hard time sleeping last night and getting around this morning has been interesting.

Ok, let me give you a recap of how things go down for me.

When I started traning again in Kenpo 11 years ago, within the first month I tore a tendon in my ankle.
When I started training Sambo and Judo 9 years ago, I had my ribs on the right side broken by Karo Parysian (UFC fighter) within the first 6 months of training, which sidelined me for 2 months.
When I started training again at kickboxing 4 years ago, I tore my ankle again, which effectively ended my training.
Now, after coming back for less than 2 weeks, I crack some ribs!

Do you see a pattern?

I have to learn what it means to come back slowly. Every time I start to train again, I don’t know how to not push myself. It’s almost a sickness. My wife just shakes her head and loves me anyway.
